The Eagle History Institute is located on the densely forested summit of Eagle Hill, the highest part of Dyer Point, the peninsula between the Schoodic Point section of Acadia National Park and Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge. There is a 2.5 mile network ot trails in the 150 acre Eagle Hill nature reserve that lead from the summit to a number of overlooks offering inspirational views of the coast of Maine, with its rocky and evergreen-lined shore and its many islands, bays, and peninsulas. The trails are well marked. They wind through a dense forest with a mix of fir, spruce, pine, jackpine, red maple, moose maple, birches, and some oak. They pass though a blueberry field and along a quarter mile of deep-water frontage along Dyer Bay. The nature reserve is an aesthetically pleasing setting that is conducive for scientific, literary, artistic, and natural history-related artistic pursuits. Care has been taken in the construction and setting of all structures on the campus to minimize impact on the surrounding landscape. Buildings are thus clustered, but nestled in the woods, providing privacy and maintaining the natural aesthetics of the forested setting.
A color trail map is available.
