Editorial Workflow ...

The Neotropical Naturalist expects to operate under the following timeline goals for the review process to help ensure thorough, but timely handling of all submissions.

  1. Generally within 1 workday of submission, author is sent acknowledgment and request for any missing confirmations or materials.
  2. Review process is initiated within 1 workday of receiving all needed confirmations and materials.
  3. Manuscript is then assigned and sent to Associate Editor within 2 weeks.
  4. Associate Editor sends manuscript out to 2 reviewers within 2 weeks of taking assignment.
  5. Reviewers are to complete assessment and return comments to Associate Editor within 6 weeks.
  6. Associate Editor is to contact author with decision within 2 weeks of receiving reviewer comments.
  7. If revision is requested, authors to make revisions to manuscript and return it to Associate Editor within 4 weeks.
  8. Associate Editor to review revised manuscript within 2 weeks and either send it back to author for additional revision or confirm that it is acceptable for publication, with a copy the sent to the Editor.
  9. Production staff to copy edit the manuscript and complete the page layout/galley within 2 weeks of receipt of appropriately formatted final materials. Galley sent to Associate Editor and author for final review and edits within 2 weeks, prior to publication.
  10. Production staff then to make corrections, conducts a final proof reading, and publishes the manuscript within 2 weeks.

Thus, with these guidelines, a manuscript can be published within 6 months or less from the time of submission.
