Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for Professional Recertification

Professionals of all kinds participate in Eagle Hill seminars and workshops because they would like to improve their ability to meet work-related responsibilities and/or because of their own personal interests in a given field.

The Institute's seminars and workshops provide exceptional learning opportunities. Most participants list them in their resumés or CVs under a section, such as, "Advanced Training Programs".

CEUs from the University of Maine. CEUs are available for all Eagle Hill seminars and workshops through the University of Maine at Machias. They may be used towards recertification requirements (10 contact hours per day = 1 CEU per day). There is a fee. Further information and a registration form is only available from the Institute.

CEUs from other oganizations. A number of professional organizations annually certify Eagle Hill seminars and workshops for CEUs and help to bring them to the attention of their members. Please let us know if your organization may be interested in collaborating with us. We can provide full syllabi showing what subjects will be covered.

Eagle Hill Master Field Biologist Program

The Eagle Hill Institute is developing a Master Field Biologist Program for subjects in which it has for years offered a substantial number of introductory through advanced level seminars. The first 3 such Programs that are being discussed are in the fields of lichenology, bryology, and mycology.

The Programs provide a structured curriculm for students who would like to continue to develop their expertise by learning from national and international experts in a subject that interests them. Students begin by completing a series of intensive weeklong seminars at the Eagle Hill Institute and then applying in their home communities what they have learned by way of stepped commitments such as completing an annotated species inventory, offering field trips, designing and completing a research project, and giving a presentation at a scientific meeting.

The Eagle Hill Master Field Biologist Program thus engages students in a meaningful stepped curriculum that leads to an ever greater commitment to learn about a natural history science subject and to share what they have learned with others. The Program contributes to a greater awareness of the natural history sciences throughout communities in which its graduates reside.

The origin of the idea for the Eagle Hill Master Field Biologist Program lies in the plain fact that colleges and universities offer ever fewer and fewer classes with a field biology component. They do however provide the essential core botany curriculum that students need by way of classes that prepare them for specialized studies.
