Independent research projects at Eagle Hill

The Institute is an exceptional base of operations where individuals or groups can pursue self-directed research projects.

Field research

Field research projects should involve the pristine or essentially undisturbed habitats in the two easternmost counties in the United States. Assistance with permitting requirements for collection of specimens is available. Eagle Hill’s library and computer resources are available for research purposes. The Institute is especially interested in projects that may lead to the writing of an original article for the Northeastern Naturalist, the quarterly natural history science journal for northeastern North America that is published by the Institute. Proposals that show some prospect for long-term involvement in research efforts in the area are welcome.

Meals are available during the summer season when seminars are in session.

Fees: Fees for accommodations are discounted 50% off regular rates (see Natural History Seminars Application and Cost Information page). Additional discounts do not apply.

Scholarly research

The Institute welcomes those who have clearly defined goals and who would like a quiet place for natural history studies, scholarly research or writing projects, and other similar pursuits. Independent research projects can benefit from the academic resources, scholarly atmosphere, and inspiring natural setting available at Eagle Hill.

To help defray costs for accommodations and meals, some time can be spent each day assisting the Institute with projects and/or day-to-day chores. Resident and commuting Institute staff are always on site on a year-round basis. The Institute's companionable dog, Bonnie, is always available for walks.
