Title: Invertebrates in the Gulf of Mexico: Responses to anthropogenic influences
Description: Coastal and offshore invertebrates in the Gulf of Mexico face many anthropogenic stressors such as microplastics ingestion, organic contamination, and parasitic infections.  Studies discussed in this session will include topics surrounding these impacts to invertebrates in the Gulf. Talks may include the analysis of contaminants and microplastics of cephalopods found nearshore as well as the deep sea. A study of the impacts of microplastics in tunicates (Ciona robusta) will be highlighted as well as examining a parasitic infection of the Eastern Oyster (Crassostrea virginica).

Title: Freshwater Biodiversity in the Caribbean

Description: The Caribbean harbors one of the world’s most distinctive freshwater biotas, yet these ecosystems face mounting pressures from habitat loss, climate change, and invasive species. This session brings together regional experts to highlight advances in biodiversity assessment, evolutionary research, and conservation planning. By integrating genomics, ecology, and management perspectives, participants will identify priority actions for sustaining freshwater fishes and invertebrates while fostering international collaboration to safeguard the ecological and cultural heritage of Caribbean freshwaters.
