Music Executive Board

The institute is in the process of discussing how it can diversify its Board to expand its ability to refine its missions and to take on new missions.

Division Boards ... The institute remains dedicated to its core scientific and literary purposes in the field of natural history science, but it has keen parallel interests in other fields, most notable in the fields of music, fine art, and astronomy. The complexity of each of these interests and their importance to the institute requires expert oversight. It is for this reason that we are diversifying the Board of the Institute into a number of Division Boards.

A Humboldtian balance ... With the goal of achieving a harmonic balance among the Division Boards, they will be semi-autonomous and will meet regularly to integrate their activities. Each Board will be responsible for setting its own mission goals and for its own respective fundraising efforts.

Board member responsibilities ... We are seeking candidates for the Music Executive Board who have either Board-level experiences with a nonprofit music organization, or who have a clear sense of how they would like to help further world of music at Eagle Hill. In both cases, members are asked to make an annual, pro forma, donation and to help with fundraising efforts by being open to reaching out to friends and colleagues who may welcome taking an interest in Eagle Hill. They are also asked to assist with strategizing about grant applications. In short, we are asking Board members to play an ongoing proactive role, rather than an occasional advisory role. They have the help of our fine arts Fundraising Group.

Music Executive Board members will be assuming responsibility for a music program whose concerts are self-supporting by way of ticket sales and dinner sales, without the need for fundraising.

Staffing ... While we do not yet have a dedicated staff person who can work closely with the Board, we are building our network of volunteers.
