The Intertidal Hydroids of Mount Desert Rock, Maine

Abstract
We examined the intertidal hydroids of Mount Desert Rock, ME, a remote island in the Gulf of Maine. Our study was conducted concurrently with a long-term ecological survey. We collected 20 specimens of hydroids in June through August 2023 and identified these specimens using a combination of morphological keys and DNA barcoding with the 16S rRNA gene. We recorded 13 species representing 6 families and 12 genera. Our investigation reveals a diverse group of species not reflected in modern ecological surveys and represents the first inventory of hydroid species for this island.
