An open letter about the future of the natural history science programs of Eagle Hill and an appeal on their behalf

Dear Alumni and Friends,

An ever-cooler wind is blowing over Eagle Hill as days are again becoming ever shorter. The last of this year’s seminar participants are long gone, but memories of conversations, comments, and suggestions have been lingering, waiting to be given attention, now that we have the leisure to think earnestly about them.

The history of Eagle Hill Institute is one of renewal and innovation. There is a logical pattern to this history upon which the future is expanding. This letter introduces bold ideas for new buildings which emerged out of our discussions with alumni and friends of Eagle Hill. If you would like to know details, please consider browsing the links throughout this campaign's paperless webpages.

If you are intrigued with the logically-evolving synergized missions of Eagle Hill to provide rare natural history science learning opportunites, integrated journal publication services, and a friendly conference where clans of field biologists can gather, please consider becoming involved by donating to this year's fundraising appeal. The future promises so much that we can achieve together.

There are many ways to support Eagle Hill.

Membership ... First, we invite you to become a member of the Friends of Natural History Science at Eagle Hill, an informal pro-active group that has been supporting the institute over the years. They are in a position to play a leading role as the institute keeps evolving.

Donations ... Donations are much needed and appreciated. This year's appeal focuses on campus improvement by way of new buildings: two modern classrooms, a new residential building, and a paired suite of independent study rooms. The underlying goal is to provide a more pleasant learning experience for seminar participants and adding research opportunities, while also allowing Eagle Hill to transition from a mostly summer seminar campus, into one that will be open for fall, winter, and spring programs and scholarly residencies. This will bring about a paradigm shift whose consequences will play out far into the future. Donations are promptly acknowledged and are tax deductible under IRS guidelines, since Eagle Hill is a nonprofit tax-exempt (501(c)(3) organization.

Volunteering ... We look forward to engaging with volunteers who have interests in helping Eagle Hill, e.g., with aspects of new program development. We welcome help with aspects of this fundraising campaign such as grant writing and relationship building.

Thank you for keeping in mind how you can play a role in the future of Eagle Hill. The staff and I welcome your frank comments, questions, and suggestions.

On a personal note, I always feel deeply grateful to the many alumni and friends of Eagle Hill whom I have had the privelege of getting to know during the decades that Eagle Hill has been serving as a beacon for those who have deep interests in nature and natural history science as a way of appreciating the amazing lifeforms on our fragile Earth. In a very real sense, they are a part of Eagle Hill.

Lastly ... Consider this charming sculpture by Emilio Fiaschi. It delightfully sets the tone for our fundraising campaign in a subtle way.
