Location:  Albany Capital Center, room TBA.

Instructors: Michael Clough, Managing Director, Southern Vermont Natural History Museum

Description: How many of us remember that time the owls came to school? Or when the snake guy scared everyone at the local library? Getting close to live animals makes an impact and can leave a lasting impression. That impact can be a gateway to connecting with the natural world as well as supplementing many different education curricula. The Southern Vermont Natural History Museum is a leader in live animal education and will bring some of their animals to discuss the issues surrounding captive animals as well as the benefits they can bring when education is done well. With over 20 years of experience working with live animals in educational settings, Museum Managing Director, Michael Clough will share some experiences and perspectives on everything from field surveys of insects to classroom pets and visiting wolves. Some of the Museum’s live animal educators will also be on hand to give up-close examples of what educating with wildlife can look like.

Fee: free, but donations to the Museum's Education Program gladly accepted.

For more information: contact Michael Clough at michael.clough@vermontmuseum.org.
